The Other Side of the Mix Shed

Before I Mixed for Artists, I Mixed for Myself

These tracks — part experiment, part education, part chaos — taught me what matters and what doesn’t. That clarity now powers your sessions. They - and many others - taught me a lot about what is important and what is not. It informed what I now bring to your sessions - from clarity and punch to knowing how and when to break the rules.

I’m still releasing music when the mood strikes and time allows, and yes - I record, mix and master it all myself. I also play every instrument on every recording unless I’m working with a guest collaborator.

Song 4 U - 7 February 2025

by Paul & Alyssia Smyth

“Song 4 U” is the first collaboration with my daughter Alyssia, aged just 12 at the time of release.

We wrote the melody and words to this having watched a sad Disney film on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I then persevered with some additional lyrics, and in no time we had our first song together.

This single release was written, recorded, mixed and mastered at our studio in Sussex.
